EV Charger Installation

Charging at home is the whole point of owning an EV in the country. Public chargers are thin on the ground east of Ottawa, so a Level 2 charger in the garage or on the outside wall is what makes the car practical: a full charge overnight, every night, at home rates.

A proper install starts with a load calculation to establish what your service can actually support with the charger added. If the panel has the capacity, the charger gets its own dedicated 240V circuit sized to the unit. If it doesn't, there are honest options: a load-management device that shares capacity intelligently, or a service upgrade if the house was due for one anyway. You get the numbers and the choices, not a one-size answer.

The work itself is straightforward when it is done right. Correct wire gauge for the run length, a breaker matched to the charger's real draw, weatherproof equipment where it lives outdoors, and an ESA notification so the install is inspected and on record, which matters for both your insurance and the charger's warranty. Hardwired or plug-in, any brand. If you already bought the charger, it gets installed properly; if you haven't, you get a recommendation based on your car and your panel, not on what's sitting in a warehouse.
